Lack of sleep @#$%, How many hours do you get?

Posted by Lauryn at 06:55 AM on September 13, 2003 in Rants.

I wish I could get more sleep. I hardly get any at the dorm because I have so much schoolwork to do and at home I can't even sleep as much as I want to because my stupid sister wakes me up everytime she goes in and out of the room! She has this annoying way of opening the door with a bang and it really sucks.

Doll avatar theme

Posted by Lauryn at 09:06 AM on September 17, 2003 in Cool stuff.

Look at those cute Doll avatars at the Protag boards. We're having a doll avatar theme and probably an avatar pageant. Come on and make one. It's addicting.

Guess who they are?

another source of income

Posted by Lauryn at 05:50 AM on September 18, 2003 in Cool stuff.

Another source of money for an impoverished college student like me. That's what I told this dude who sponsored some of my sites. Well not exactly, I just thanked him for the $__ check I will get every month.

And guess what? He offered a marketing proposal that was too hard to refuse. For one thing, it won't take much of my time and secondly, I think it might help some people. Hit 2 birds with one stone. Yeah .

i hate godaddy

Posted by Lauryn at 08:52 AM on September 20, 2003 in Rants.

My online journal, nimrodel.net is registered at godaddy.com and I can't view the damned registrar.

Apparently, the reason is (according to this this thread) that "due to alleged fraudulent credit card usage, godaddy.com blacklisted the philippines and other countries like bulgaria, china (including hong kong), indonesia, malaysia, pakistan, and singapore." Some IPs cannot access godaddy.com including mine. I heard that some IP's in the Philippines like ISP bonanza can still view it. So if you live in any of those banned countries and have domains registered there, better transfer it now before it expires.

Jason arrested?

Jason is in trouble. If you're wondering what happened to him... Click here for more news.. It's just impossible.

Posted by Lauryn at 10:02 PM on September 20, 2003 in Cool stuff.

Ahh I'm distracted again.

I think this site has the most awesome collection of accessories from clips, earrings, bracelets, necklace and footwear. And even makeup. Really cool. It's my current avatar. This is something I'd wear.

You must be sick of all these doll avatar entries. It is a stress reliever in between homework. Haha.. But yeah, that's me and Jason at the Glorietta Mall. His hair is wild. You can read the story I wrote in the Couple Dolls thread . And if you want to know how to make one, read this tutorial.

Hello Kitty Taxi cabs

Posted by Lauryn at 08:21 PM on September 21, 2003 in Cool stuff.

"How's this for a relaxing cab ride: slide into the back seat of a pink and baby blue sedan with two Hello Kitty characters painted on the side, sit on a Hello Kitty blanket and listen to Hello Kitty music piped in through the sound system."

Would you ride a Hello Kitty Taxi Cab?

beta status

Posted by Lauryn at 06:26 PM on September 22, 2003 in Communities.

Now that my tabulas has beta status, I can have 25 user icons and all the cool features. Hmm.. I should start creating some cute icons or beg someone to make some for me.

Hå†élèss

Uh...There is a "User awaiting authorisation" at the boards and the username is Hå†élèss. Having strange characters on a username is weird and definitely won't get my stamp or approval .

friendster messages

Posted by Lauryn at 04:38 PM on September 23, 2003 in Web discoveries.

It seems everyone I know has joined friendster. Everyday, my friendster list is growing and everyday, I meet new friends and strangers. But I only add those that I've known somehow through emails, Livejournal, visitors of my site, schoolmates, online friends.... That's the whole point right? Anyway, I got this message from some guy:

"hey how you doing? my name is _____ and i basically own a modelling agency called ______? i was going through the file and your picture struck me. so is it cool if we present you for commercials and magazines?"

Nice way to start the friendship eh? But if he could only see the zits and scars on my face...

CSS Based Design

Posted by Lauryn at 08:51 PM on September 23, 2003 in Web development.

It's been almost 2 years since I've dabbled with CSS based design or table-less layouts and all I can say is it's so much easier than tables. If you haven't tried it yet, just read this article . It puts up a very nice presentation about web standards/CSS.

"Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain but you feel it, that there's somethingwrong with the web. You don't know what it is but it's there like a splinterin your mind driving you mad." . read more...

Opera 7.2

Posted by Lauryn at 09:10 AM on September 25, 2003 in Web discoveries.

Opera 7.2 was just released. I alternate between Opera and Mozilla Firebird. If I really like the site and can't be viewed by those browsers, I have no choice but to use Internet Explorer. What's your favorite browser?

ikobo

Posted by Lauryn at 09:37 AM on September 25, 2003 in Web discoveries.

Someone told me to apply at ikobo since paypal doesn't cover the Philippines. It also looks like iKobo's Top Destination Market: The Philippines. Hmm, the way I understand is that iKobo sends the person receiving the money an i-Kard (ATM card). Then you withdraw the money from any Visa Plus ATM . No harm trying since it's free anyway.

on tricycles

Posted by Lauryn at 12:25 PM on September 25, 2003 in College.

My dorm is right across the school campus but I usually take the trike instead of walking to school.. So yeah , try walking under the heat. But it sucks though, because this week the drivers went on strike and I can't take a trike to school these days.

Nation of cool people

Posted by Lauryn at 09:47 PM on September 25, 2003 in Cool stuff.

As of today, the most number of Tabulas accounts come from the USA, with 796 users while the second highest is the Philippines with 103 users. When I started plugging Tabulas last September 11, there were less than 10 users from the Philippines. I wonder if all of them really post here. And where is this Nation of cool People? There are 12 users in that country.

We didn't win the game

Posted by Lauryn at 10:13 PM on September 25, 2003 in College.

Arg, we lost. It was a helluva exciting game though! Unlike all the other Ateneo-La Salle games, where you know from the first quarter that my school would win, this was a very close match. I wrote more about it in my journal entry.

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Posted by Lauryn at 10:01 PM on September 27, 2003 in Reviews.

My original Lit movie review assignment was "Sabrina" , one of Audrey Hepburn's movies . But since my mom bought a set of 4 VCD's of her movies ( costs $11 at National Bookstore), Breakfast at Tiffany's caught my interest. (Read More)

myspace.com vs friendster

Posted by Lauryn at 07:51 PM on September 28, 2003 in Web discoveries.

myspace.com vs friendster but I stick with friendster for now. I was looking through the friends of my friends in Friendster when I got the shock of my life. My crush !! OMG OMG...just 1 degree apart from me. In friendster, I don't add people I don't know but I added him anyway. Let me see if he'll add me to his friends list

*update- September 29
Just letting everyone know that my crush added me in friendster. wheeee

StrangeBanana - computer-generated webpage design

Posted by Lauryn at 08:43 PM on September 28, 2003 in Web development.

Iif you are not a graphic designer and don't have a talent for design, StrangeBanana can probably create a design better than what you can do yourself. At least it can do it quicker! StrangeBanana is a program that automatically creates graphic designs for webpages. If you're lucky, you might get great color combinations but more often than not, the design is ugly. The actual webpage consists of XHTML 1.0 code with an internal Cascading Style Sheet (CSS). What can you expect from random webpage designs?

But it was fun playing with the StrangeBanana generator.

Environmental Science Group Project

Posted by Lauryn at 08:25 PM on September 29, 2003 in College.

We decided to include comic book-like pictures in our Environmental Science presentation. They probably won't make any sense, but basically the good guy is the organic fertilizer and the bad guy is the synthetic fertilizer.

Guess what I'm supposed to be?

It was so much fun! We'll be editing the photos so we can incorporate them in our group's Powerpoint presentation on Wednesday.

1st Philippine Blog Award

Posted by Lauryn at 05:25 PM on September 30, 2003 in Reviews.

I found this in my referrers. Uh...nimrodel.net is one of the 34 Finalists for Filipino Blog Site of the Year, Philippine 1st Blog Awards. Uh, but I don't consider nimrodel.net as a blog. *sigh* . It's an online journal. In my opinion, there is a difference between a weblog vs. journal, content-wise but a blog could be both a weblog and journal? Confusing.... Wait, isn't the appropriate word, "weblog" instead of "blog"? Isn't blog a verb? Too many contradictions.

Congrats to Sinta too . She's a finalist in both Filipino Blogger of the Year and Blog Site of the Year.
