on XHTML 1.1 and templatesPosted by Lauryn at 07:24 AM on October 2, 2003 in Web development. I've been trying to validate nimrodel.net as XHTML 1.1. Right now, it only validates as XHTML 1 strict. I'm just too lazy to tweak on it now. (PLUG: see my new layout too. Read the concept behind the new design.).If you're looking for a free XHTML 1.1 and CSS template complete with PSD file and popout menu, download the Aura: web page exoskin. There are so many things I want to experiment but with schoolwork, this will have to wait till sem break (yay, 2 weeks left). Some goodies worth exploring other than the Aura template are : Tabbed Panels , Expanding Menu and all those vertical and horizontal Nested lists. I'm getting bored with my usual navigation. More stuff at my web resources. (this is a test for future posting)

World Animal DayPosted by Lauryn at 07:01 PM on October 4, 2003 in Random Babble. Enlarge October 4 is World Animal Day. I love my kitty cats. Aww, look at Iggy clinging for his dear life at the screen door by the garage. He was meowing to get in the house. hehe Cute Hasn't he grown ?Speaking of world animal day, Sweet, a Filipino mongrel, that now lives a good life in the United Kingdom is an advocate against the illegal trade in dog meat in the Philippines. "The dog was rescued in June last year during a raid on a filthy slaughterhouse in Baguio City, by investigators and volunteers of the Animal Kingdom Foundation Inc. (Akfi) and members of the Special Operations Group Jericho. " (Eating dogs:Is it a cultural gap or animal abuse?)

Destructive Manipulative BehaviorPosted by Lauryn at 10:41 AM on October 5, 2003 in Reviews. What do you say to a person who veers away from the topic of the discussion and threatens to be suicidal ? Should you feel sorry for that person? or get mad? or what?Well, if the purpose was to make me feel guilty..uh what's their problem?. That's really annoying. To gain attention and make me feel sorry. Excuse me, but if you're having problems, don't blame me for it. And the first thought that entered my mind was "manipulative duh". Everyone can be manipluative but if it's destructive, that's another story...So I searched for it and found out that there is such a thing as " Destructive Manipulative Behavior" or (DMB). I am not saying this person suffers from DMB since I am not a therapist but just thought I'd share this article. (What is DMB about?) Check if you're one. Currently feeling: apathetic |

Free polyphonic tonesPosted by Lauryn at 08:39 PM on October 5, 2003 in Web discoveries. I've been trying to download "Waltz for the moon"(FF8), a free polyphonic ringtone from this site. But everytime I connect to gprs, I always have "no access to server". I can connect fine to other wap sites. Ugh, I must have that ringtone.

New tableless layoutPosted by Lauryn at 08:41 PM on October 6, 2003 in Plug. New tabulas layout but it's not done yet. This tableless layout was based from this freeware template, Aura: Web Page Exoskin. You should try it. It even comes with a psd file, popup menu and css template. Ack,for some reason it doesn't validate to XHTML 1.1. The one I made for my webhosting site validates . Oh well, I'll work on it when I have more time. That gorgeous logo is supposed to be me as illustrated by Jenn. The complete drawing can be found at nimrodel.net. Isn't Jenn amazing? Check out her site. Another artist I admire is Annia. *sighy* Bah, I can't draw

mini buttonsPosted by Lauryn at 08:16 AM on October 7, 2003 in Web development. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() These cute little buttons were just addicting. That squeaky little thing is dedicated to Pei while the protag girl icon is Lele. ( couldn't find a chicken ) Guess who I am? It was first created from this buttonmaker and edited it further in Photoshop using the silkscreen font. I And those cutesy pixel icons were taken from this site (from the left menu, it's the 15th link). These buttons conform to the "standard" mini-button size of 80 x 15 pixels so as to be consistent with w3c, RSS, etc mini-buttons. My nimrodel button ![]() You can also Steal these buttons.

Yahoo! 2SMSPosted by Lauryn at 03:49 PM on October 10, 2003 in Web discoveries. Use the latest version of Yahoo! Messenger to send SMS to your friends' mobile phones and receive their responses -- all you need is their phone number! Some of the compatible operators are SMART, Globe (in the Philippines), Singtel (Singapore), TMTOUCH (Malaysia) , AT&T, CIngular (USA) etc. They even have an SMS tutorial. Great but when you reply to this SMS, the fee is 2.50 pesos. Chikka is around 2 pesos per reply for post paid subscribers like me. The latter is still cheaper but unlike the Yahoo! 2SMS, chikka can only be used in the Philippines. Jason uses the chikka often to send me SMS. Last month, my chikka bill was 63 pesos (roughly $1.10). Still cheaper than overseas SMS feature.

My English ProfessorPosted by Lauryn at 04:42 PM on October 15, 2003 in College. I'm so flattered. My English prof is in friendster and wrote this testimonial:"There is that moment in a writer's life when he/she gets threatened by the arrival of someone younger and potentially more gifted. For me, that feeling comes courtesy of Lauren." I can't believe he said that.... Speaking of friendster and perverts, I changed my userpic to a guy's photo. Mwahaha. Currently feeling: giddy |

Code generatorsPosted by Lauryn at 01:38 PM on October 19, 2003 in Web development. Among the best code generators I've seen are the List-o-matic and the Form builder. The former can generate navigation bars based on list items (li) that are styled with CSS (up to 10 styles). It's as easy as falling off a chair, only less painful. The latter is a hybrid of the Form Element Generator and the Accessible Table Builder. This tool lets you enter a number of fields for text input, then creates a table (or CSS-based layout) to lay them out in, and puts in the necessary mark-up for accessibility. Forms have never been quicker!I've been updating my web resources site so go check it out.

The Spirit QuestorsPosted by Lauryn at 09:38 AM on October 20, 2003 in Reviews. "Psychic Powers and Shamanism" is not a class one would expect to be found in a Catholic university. However, this unusual subject was offered by the Interdisciplinary Studies department of the Ateneo eight years ago, with Tony Perez as the facilitator. The syllabus sounds like something one would take up at Hogwarts;.... . This is the introduction from , Tony Perez and the Spirit Questors: Shamans or Shams? , an article that I co-wrote with another Guidon staff member. It was orginally intended to be written by me but our boss rejected the article of my co-staff member.More articles at The Guidon Alt+G.

ConfessionsPosted by Lauryn at 02:08 PM on October 26, 2003 in Reviews. People have no idea that I'm both people. " (the confession) I wonder which blog site that is.

My passportPosted by Lauryn at 06:49 PM on October 29, 2003 in Random Babble. Finally got my renewed passport. It had been pending in Room 100 at the Department of Foreign Affairs for quite awhile now just because of my photo. Yeah right, they want to collect my lovely photos. It took 3 attempts to get it right. The first photo was glossy paper. Then when I submitted another one, it wasn't acceptable because a sliver of my naked arms was seen. Grr, what is so inappropriate with naked arms? On my third photo, I made sure I wore a jacket just to be sure and tucked my hair behind my ears. I'm ready to travel next year without that Social Welfare clearance since I'll be 18. Yes!

why godaddy.com sucksPosted by Lauryn at 03:30 PM on October 30, 2003 in Web discoveries. Why is godaddy.com evil?1. I've been their customer for 3 years now but I can't access their site because apparently they banned my country's isp. Other companies don't do business with other countries ever but godaddy has done business with me and now bans me from even accessing my domain management. (Godaddy.com is being discriminatory in the process) 2. And another reason to avoid or move from godaddy.com is this : a GIANT ad for grabbing YOUR domain embedded into the WHOIS. I know they are not exactly selling my domain name yet but still....sometimes people forget to renew their domains. Yeah Godaddy.com sucks
